Vratsa Balkan

The Natural Park Vrachanski Balkan is one of the 10 such parks in the country, declared as Protected site of International Importance. It is recommended for tourism, relaxation and recuperation. The park is a unique natural complex having great biological and landscape diversity. The greater part of the territory of the park is covered with calcareous rocks of Triassik and Jurassik limestone cracked in different directions.

Flora and Fauna 

Within Vrachanski Balkan there are more than 700 species of plants, 51 of them are identified as rare. The invertebrate fauna has a high value for the natural protection, as well as the day predatory birds such as the Black Stork, Egyptian Vulture, Imperial Eagle, etc.

Eco-trails

One of the most attractive centres in the park is the man-made eco-trails. Their location makes them unique, they are only 3 miles away from Vratsa town, and there is a convenient transport connections. The trails are unforgetable feelings to tourists and nature admirers. The eco-trails have been constructed with materials of natural origin only, i.e. of trees and stones. Another attraction for the little tourists is the so called Trail of the Fairy Tales. Here children can meet their favourite characters from the fairy tales, and be guests to the house of the Old Witch.

Natural sights

- The area Vratzata where one can see the impressive rock massif called Dolomitite where national and international climbing competitions are held. More than 116 alpine routes have been traced of difficulty class 4. The sheer cliffs here are unique for Europe at this altitude.They are one of the most popular climbing sites in Bulgaria. Vratzata is a narrow rocky gorge situated on the northeastern slopes of the Vratsa Mountain. The gorge Vratzata is only 1/4 of a mile from Vratsa town and it is an attractive location not only for tourists and admirers, but climbers as well.

- Skaklia is the highest waterfall in Bulgaria - 141m high and it is less than a mile from the town of Vratsa. The waterfall is impressive with its magnificence and beauty.

- Memorial Complex Botev Path - Unique in the world. It is 70 miles long alley starting from the legendary steamer Radetzki, a ship-museum now, on the riverbank of Danube at Kozloduy town, and finishing at the place where the great revolutioneer Christo Botev was killed at 1876. Botev's steps have been followed each year, since 1946, by hundreds of mountaineers from all over the country who march to honour the immortality of the heroes.

- The area is rich of many monasteries, on of which is the Cherepishki monastery. It is one of the oldest monasteries in Bulgaria and is remarkable for its mural paintings, typical Bulgarian architectures and centuries-old history. The oldest evidence for its existence is the monastery statute "tipik" written in the period 1390-1396. The other monasteries on the territory of the park are Lopushanski Monastery, Klisurski Monastery, Ivan Pusti Monastery.

- Parshevitsa is among the most beautiful and longest ski slopes in Bulgaria at 1300m above the sea level. Parshevitsa ski resort offers well-maintained ski track, perfect for beginners or intermediates in skiing and snowboarding. The length of the trace is 1100 m and the drag lift can take up to 300 persons per hour. The site is also perfect for camping during summer.
