Vratsa Caves
In the vicinity of the town of Vratsa is located the national park Vrachanski Balkan, which offers great opportunities for walking tourism. The region has more caves than any other in the country - over 500 caves and Karst abysses.
On the territory of the park is located one of the most beautiful Bulgarian caves - Ledenika. It is announced for a natural sight and a tourist attraction of international prominence. The cave impresses with its size, and during the winter astonishes the visitors with its exquisite ice decoration, hence its name.
In the Big Hall everything is majestic and unique. For hundreds of years nature has chiseling the weird forms of the Crocodile, the Giant's head,etc. A small pond can be seen here, which is 0.50m deep and whose water is believed to be magical. As the Big Hall has unique acoustics symphonic concerts are held there.
The formations of the Mother - in - law's tongue, the Elephant, the Bathing Maid can be seen in the White Hall. The highest point of the cave is called The Seventh Sky and is accessible only for very keen tourists. The temperature in the cave varies from 7 to 15 degrees Centigrade.
There are other popular caves in the region, with beautiful formations, underground rivers and crystal clear lakes. Some of them are - cave Gradeshnishka peshtera, cave Ponora, cave Zmeyova Dupka, cave Dedova dupka, etc.
